I’ve had the chance to use TNX.net now for a few months, so I can give a better opinion on it. For the original review, you can check it out here.

TNX.net is pretty close to being a fire and forget income generator. Although you can make enough of an income stream without ever having to put in additional work after the setup, there’s more potential if you do a little babysitting during the process.

Basically, what you do: list your site and post the PHP bit in the correct section of your website. Buyers and TNX.net will pick up your link real-estate, and all you need to do is go in every once and while and cash out your points.

Cashing out your points requires a little bit of work because you can only cash out a maximum 50% of the points that you have. That gives you a bit of a dilemma. Wait to cash out? or Cash out whenever possible? In 3 days, you’d be able to withdraw 87.5% of your points, but then it will be a hell of a long time until you can get up to that level again.

If you do invest time in finding buyers for your link space, you can make additional income, especially if you make sure your high PageRank real estate stays sold.

That all being said, I’d recommend it for any blog out there that doesn’t mind selling out to pick up the slack on the hosting bill. There’s one catch, I wouldn’t attempt this with a blog that has a low PageRank because the income would be very limited.

Hope that helps.

Here are some additional tips that can help you get that jumpstart that you need.

Your Email Signature is Prime Real Estate. Have a few links (but nothing elaborate) to your website in your email signature. A well-written email to a client, associate or family member might entice them to visit your website.

Use Online Profiles To Your Advantage. There are always curious people who might check out your profile on StumbleUpon, Digg, Facebook or miscallaneous forums. Give them something to look at; post a link to your website.

If Something You Wrote is Relevant, Forward It. If a coworker or old classmate asks me how to do something I’ve discussed on my blog. Instead of completely reiterating what it was that I wrote, I’ll forward them a link. Try not to brag or anything, just try to slip it in.

Hope that helps.

Even if you already have a related posts widget for WordPress which helps with your blog’s stickiness, there is another quick tip that may multiply the users that are coming to your site.

In the blogosphere (yeah, I said it), stickiness refers to the likeliness of a visitor remaining on your website after he/she has viewed a page. That user would usually come from a “short-term” link such as StumbleUpon, Digg, a link from a friend or a link from a search engine.

Here’s what you can do:

Log into your analytics or web stats program. Most hosting platforms will provide you with a statistics application, if not, you should invest time into installing Google Analytics. Have a look at your most popular (visited) web pages. You may notice that some webpages were created months ago, but still manage to account for a large percentage of your search engine’s visitors. These are the webpages we need to tackle, here are some tips to making a page more sticky:

Write server-side code that determines whether the user came from a Search Engine. Create custom text and custom links that might interest the user.

Include more contextual links in your content. For example, if you’re website talks about parrots and you briefly mention parrot care, a category on your website, link to that category.

Add content or updates at the end of your article that might direct the user to a more current webpage or to a recent update.

If you haven’t already installed a related posts widget, do so, and include the list at the end of your article.

That’s all for now, hope that helps.

Starting off any kind of website is tough when you don’t have another strong website’s traffic to leverage into your new website. So what is it that you can do to get that first big break? What can we do to make those first few visits stick?

1 – Start With Great Content – Your first batch of content is the most important. If your content ends up rehashing what’s happening on CNN or BBC, that’s not something that’s going to keep eyes on your website. Be sure to have solid stories or news on your homepage before you even start getting visitors round up. Good content will go a long way.
2 – Make It Easy For Users To Stick Around – Make sure your RSS button is handy and if you desire, use a feature that allows users to subscribe to your feed via email for those that aren’t as technologically advanced. Making it easy also includes omitting things like registration or other burdens for new users.

3 – Jump Into Other Forums And Contribute – Those who frequent forums are those who have no problems integrating with a site’s community and being active. Join a forum that discusses your topic and pimp your site’s URL with a catchy tagline in your signature. Avoid creating posts or threads that shamelessly plug your URL. As you become more respected and active in the community, you will become a trusted resource.

4 – Jump Into Other Blogs And Comment – Blogs, like forums, are places of discussion and community. Stay up-to-date on niche blogs and be sure to comment religiously and without the intent to solicit users for your own personal need. Tip: Stay up to date via RSS feeds and comment early with something witty or constructive. Curious readers may click your name/URL to see what you’re up to.

5 – Go On Bookmark Yourself – I wrote an article previously on bookmarking yourself on social media websites. Don’t feel bad, get your site out there. Don’t go right out and pimp out terrible content, but make an effort (as mentioned in the first tip), to have good, solid content.

6 – Partner With Google – Well, you don’t actually partner with Google, but you can use them to your advantage. Well phrased headlines (and content) that match possible search queries are an easy to way to get a few hits here and there from Google. If you’ve done your work well, you may manage to nab some permanent visitors.

7 – Make Your Peers Aware – Your friends and peers may not be the demographic you’re looking for, but who knows, your website may come up in conversation. At first you may think it’s a little nerdy to tell everyone about a website you’re starting, but don’t worry about it. Although I wouldn’t recommend using it as some sort of pickup line on the opposite (or the same?) sex…

That’s all for now. I hope that helps.

Banner blindness is a phenomenon where users will naturally ignore advertisement banners, regardless of what they’re about or how relevant (or irrelevant) they are. For us publishers, it affects us because advertisers will be willing to pay less and less for an advertising method that does not work.

Eye-tracking studies have shown that a user’s eyes will beeline right for the content. That doesn’t only impact web advertising, but also other minor content suffers. (did you notice the date this article was posted before you started reading?)

What Can Publishers Do?

Poorly placed banners will often yield poor click-through’s and a generally poor audience. You need to be different. Here are some ideas:

Aggressive Placement – Banners should be placed aggressively or uniquely to attract as much attention to them (if this is what you desire).

Unique Dimensions – Users will recognize skyscrapers or other typical dimensions (768×90, 468×60) . Other dimensions might not be so immediately recognizable and might get a glance, and maybe even a click-through.

Unique Treatments – Users are used to brightly colored boxes full of information. What if you used something uncommon in advertising, some sort of transparency. I’ve done this with my own advertising as you can see with this example. This has been successful at returning click-through’s.

What Can Advertisers Do?

Advertisers with large budgets might be more inclined to do fewer media buys with larger companies, but that’s where a lot of customization is lost. You’ll see that the suggestions will be similar to what publishers can do.

Consider Buying Posts or Articles – Sponsored posts are not uncommon in the web world. You could always make it easier for the Publisher and write the article yourself. If users beeline straight for content, you’ve already got the user convinced to read what it is you’ve got to say. Make sure that everything is believable and doesn’t seem like an advertisement.

Advertise on Individual Websites – Instead of buying a clump of Page Views from a variety of websites in your target niche, consider going straight to a website’s operators and suggesting a new media type, banner dimension or file size. You would be able to get away with a little more creativity and maybe do something similar to what I’ve done.

Without being unique, you’re just another advertisement to overlook. Hope that helps.

It’s time for story time. Hopefully you won’t mind that I’m dealing with $66 instead of $6600. Yesterday, I checked my mail and I saw what looked like a check through the cellophane window on the envelope. I thought to myself that this was likely the result of me being included on some sort of Publisher’s-Clearing-House-esque mailing list somewhere, somehow. I opened up the envelope, $66. There wasn’t any catch, there was no void, and the check certainly didn’t say that I might already be a winner!

I scanned the check, and it turns out it was from Commission Junction. Big surprise (no sarcasm here).

Months ago, I applied to some affiliate programs, GoDaddy was one in particular, on CJ. I figured I was flogging GoDaddy naturally, I might as well include an affiliate link. I eventually ignored my account as there were limited advertisers that targeted my niche that I talked about without intentionally hawking the affiliate. The last thing I remember doing is setting my payout rate to a low $35.

Flash forward to now. I search around my site and it turns out that I had a single Commission Junction link on my entire website. That one link made me $66, in one sale. Incredible. One link!

Is there anything to learn from this? Certainly. Every little bit counts, you don’t need to have 125×125′s up and down your right navigation or huge AdSense skycrapers to get a little cash from your website. Affiliate links are discrete and don’t take away that much from your blog’s credibility.

Hope that helps.

What I found, was a site that was really serious about what they offered and offered features that put them in the limelight. You could sell links for individual pages. Don’t think that’s attractive? I’ll elaborate. Site-wide links aren’t as effective as they once were, but who can be bothered to list hundreds (or thousands) of URLs that have text link potential? TNX crawls your page, calculates the PR, calculates the price. Easy.

The site is attractive, and extremely easy to use. You buy points (their currency) with cash, and all link transactions are done with points. You can buy/sell links on one account. You can cash out your points at almost anytime. For those who are just starting. There’s an extremely low cash-out threshold: $5.

Since my blog is not my only site in my repertoire, I was excited. I jumped in, and with my 5000 points, I was able to purchase a large number (large number…) of low-PR links. Perfect. They even provide you with a link generator tools that allows you to randomize the link text, text before the link, and text after the link. It automatically generates each of the combinations and lists them randomly. Definitely helpful if you’re looking to stay under the radar from Google’s detection.
This has really been an easy experience for me, and really, you have nothing to lose by signing up for those free 5000 points. I’ll keep you guys posted on profits, I’ll see what I can do about their affiliate program too.

Hope that helps.

I’ve read articles in the past where financially successful people were interviewed and they gave tips. These tips outlined that it’s important to have multiple revenue streams in your life. In the event that one of your streams succumb, you’ll always have a backup to help rebuild or to absorb some of the impact.

This theory can also be applied to an internet entrepreneur. This is especially useful if you’re relying on your online revenue to sustain your lifestyle offline. If your total income consists of only one income stream, you should put aside resources (financial resources or just time) to build additional revenue streams.

As an example, Darren Rowse, over at ProBlogger, although he can make a living from his main website, co-founded a blog network and has other blogs that aren’t quite as popular.

If we break it down even further, we can apply the theory to your affiliate revenue and your advertising revenue.

As an example, let’s pretend you rely on uniquely on one revenue stream for your website, such as AdSense. If AdSense, a party that beyond your control, makes global changes in the way you receive revenue, you have limited recourse. However, if AdSense only made up for half of your revenue stream and you had another revenue stream that generated an income equal to that of half of AdSense, you have more options if one of your streams goes awry.

That being said, here are some tips:

Diversify your advertisers and affiliate programs. Be sure that you review the minimum payout.

Leverage your existing user base into a different web project.

Just a little tip.

I discussed in a previous article that I had a domain name (BigGirlfriend.com) that I had no idea what to do with. Turns out I developed an application that I was going to use (regardless if it’s released to the public or not) and figured I’d whip up a quick skin and throw it on the server for the public to use.

Here’s some advertising I whipped up:

Unfortunately, it didn’t do too well on Digg, so I’m toying with the idea of using internal advertising on my blog to replace some old advertising that simply wasn’t profitable. I figure if I can get one solid visitor who forwards the link to a friend of theirs, it’ll be worth the ad space.

What Does It Do

What the web application does is it allows you to search for files using Google. It’s based on a search syntax that can be typed into Google, but who can be bothered with doing that. It searches and presents results featuring exposed directories for the file extensions that you specify.

What I’m asking of anyone who reads this article is, does anyone have any ideas to further promote this? There is competition out there, but they’re usually big and clunky.

I’m welcoming to any thoughts or criticism. Thanks guys!

In an effort to establish myself as a personality in a web marketing niche, I have a project in mind.

It will be a simple one-page website that estimates potential ad revenue based on a site’s existing statistics or on a site’s potential statistics. I’m hoping to get repeat visitors who either bookmarked the resource or gotten to the site via search engine.

Revenue

The revenue model will consist of:

Simple referrals – eg. If you’re using AdSense (referral), you can stand to make X$ a month. (Insert referral link here)

AdSense – If people are already looking for resources, why not help them out.

Text Links – If PageRank starts to pick up, this will easily cover server and domain name cost.

Stay tuned for updates. I’ll have something for you guys soon.
