Darren Rowse, blogger at the famous Problogger, a blog I follow religiously, is celebrating his birthday in style. He managed to gather $54000 worth of prizes through sponsors alone. He’s a prime example of how you can promote your website with a contest.

Over the course of 6 days, Tuesday, October 2nd through Monday, October 8th, he will be holding contests daily. You can win everything from bunny slippers to gift certificates to logo designs for your blog. Each contest has different submission guidelines which means if one contest’s criteria doesn’t cut it for you, there might be two more over the course of the day that might.

Using The Contest As A Web Marketing Tool

Since there are so many different ways to enter the contest and so many different types of prizes. Word gets around pretty quick. For example, in a recent contest, a free blog directory listing is being given away to all readers that submit via ProBloggers referral URL. (Link here) Since bloggers are typically well networked, word gets around pretty quickly and viral marketing jumps in. Users start visiting Darren’s site and convert into readers that stay around until after the contest is complete.

What Are You Waiting For?

Think about how this marketing method can be applied to your blog. What can you offer? Can you write an e-book? Are you a good template designer? Do you have extra products lying around? Also think to yourself, what is it that you want in return? What do you want from all this?

Hope that helps, good luck. :)
